Rainbows

The Family Support Agency funds Rainbows groups which provide a peer-support programme to assist children who are grieving a death or separation in their family. Rainbows provides a safe setting in which they can share their feelings, emotions and struggles with others who have similar experiences. They are supported in this process by a trained facilitator.

It uses materials such as journals, story books, games and activities which forms a structured programme to lead the participants gently through the grieving process.

The Family Supprt Agency through its Scheme of Grants to Counselling Organisations provided funding to over 160 Rainbows groups in 2008. The vast majority of these operated in primary and secondary schools around Ireland.
